AUGUST – TLP calendar page

Around this time last year I was at work carving a woodblock for Tiger Lily Press’ biannual fundraising calendar.  I chose August since it is my birthday month.  Which causes me to associate the telephone with August due to the birthday wishes I receive near the month’s start.

I have worked on many woodblocks previously but creating a detailed linear grid with calendar numbers inside was a new challenge.  Consistently using a new, sharp x-acto blade was key to making clean end stops around the numbers. This allowed the unwanted wood to pop away clearly from the phone image and calendar details.  It was printed in an edition of 100.
